I began collecting student data based on a "first name, last initial". Now I am collecting it "first name, last name". To merge the spreadsheets I need to find a way to convert "first name, last initial" to the current format of "first name, last name". There is a master name database.  If there are multiple entries for it to either stay blank or somehow flag it for a manual conversion.

please click the link to find my example

Old format:
Tom B.

New format:
Tom Brady

  1. after modifying the formula to work with my data, I am receiving unexpected output. When there are 6 'Tom"'s it is giving them all, one after the other, and then continues on with the list. I need the list order to stay the same as the original data, and on an error or multiple names, skip the cell so i can manually pick which name it is. Is this possible?

Here is the link. I have modified the sample data
