Doing calculations without the equals sign

I want the sum of the items, but so far the only way i've found to do that is to write =3*56, =60*23, =12*6 in the cells and then doing a =sum() function.

That works, but the fact that i have to enter the = every time disrupts my workflow a lot.

Is there a workaround?, a way to format the cells so they automatically do their calculations?
